Tahsildar Vijaya Reddy Passes Away, also Driver Gurunatham Who Tried Saving

HYDERABAD: Vijaya Reddy, a female Tehsildar abducted in Abdullapurmet on Monday, was allegedly burned to death by a man, her private driver Gurunatham who tried to saving her succumbed to injuries in DRDO Apollo Hospitals on Tuesday morning. He is survived by his 8month pregnant wife and two- and-half- year old son.

His personal driver Gurunatham was a lorry driver, before 6 years ago he was started working as Vijaya Reddy’s personal driver.

The traumatic incident happened around 1.30pm when a tenant farmer K Suresh his name he came by motorcycle, poured petrol on her and used a lighter for a fire within half an hour of entering the chamber. She came out screaming and then Vijaya’s attendant and the driver reached the room, broke the doors and tried to extinguish the fire using floor mats in the office. He was burned 85% and was shifted to DRDO Apollo Hospital near Hyderabad 4th November. Then she where succumbed to burn injuries.

Police and revenue officials said that according to preliminary information, he had some ground dispute and contacted the tehsildar on the matter. The attacker was also burned in the attack and fell after running for some distance from the office to escape, said Mahesh M Bhagwat, Rachakonda Police Commissioner. He was detained and hospitalized in critical condition.

The shocking incident sparked protests by Telangana Department of Revenue employees, who say they fear their lives on such land issues.

Another issue that has come up is the issue of Revenue staff safety because these offices do not have security measures or CC cameras. The surprising thing was that when the incident happened, there was no fire protection device in the office.
