Hyderabad Can Be Second Capital of India, Says Senior BJP leader Vidyasagar Rao

HYDERABAD: Former Maharashtra governor and senior BJP leader Vidyasagar Rao said Hyderabad has the potential to become the country’s second capital. These statements are given at the launch of a poetry compilation titled ‘Sridhar Kavitha Prasthanam’ organized by Dr Sridhar Reddy in the city.

The statement has stirred political circles that a senior BJP leader has also stressed the speculation that Hyderabad could become a union territory under the central government. The rumor was rejected after several central ministers said the central government had no intention of doing so.

But now with Vidyasagar Rao, a BJP leader who also served as the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, this kind of statement has once again brought this issue to the fore.

Speaking during the launch of the booklet, the BJP leader cited the levels of pollution in Delhi that have reached alarming levels. He added that this sudden development in the national capital would remind people of Dr. BR Ambedkar’s dream of making Hyderabad a second capital, and would reduce the level of pollution.

Dr.Ambedkar had raised Hyderabad as the second capital of his book ‘Ideological Linguistic States’, published in the 50s. Delhi is most distressing for people coming from the south, as well as the extreme cold and hot weather. Even for the northern Indians, summer is a difficult time in Delhi. But more importantly, Delhi is a weak spot at a distance from its neighbor’s countries.

Due to the closure of Kolkata due to its proximity to Tibet, Dr.Ambedkar also knows Mumbai as unsafe due to coastal belt. Then Ambedkar zeroed in on Hyderabad. He wrote in the book, “I want to make Hyderabad a better place for a second capital. Hyderabad, Alexander and Bolarum should be made a chief commissioner province and make India the second capital.”
