An explosion outside the police headquarters in the Indonesian city of Maidan has injured several officers. This blast is suspected to be a suicide bombing as reported.
Police allege a university student blew himself up in a suicide bombing outside the police headquarters in the Indonesian city of Maidan on Wednesday.
The attack comes exactly one month after Islamist militants attacked a former security minister.
- The explosion happened around 8:40 a.m. local time.
- The blast killed the attacker and injured 6 others — 4 police officers and 2 civilians
- Police said the blast happened in a parking lot near where people were waiting for approval letters
- The purpose of the ‘lone-wolf’ attack was not immediately clear
Security police were there, but when the officers tried to check his bag, the attacker ignored the instructions, local police spokesman Dedi Prasetyo said.
The National Densus 88 Anti-Terrorism Unit said it was investigating whether the 24-year-old bomber had anything to do with the radicals.
