Ahmedabad Migrants hurl stones on Cops, 100 detained

AHMEDABAD: About 100 migrant laborers gathered here on Monday on a busy road connecting IIM Ahmedabad with Vastrapur area and pelted stones at passing police and vehicles while immediately returning them to their hometowns. Requested to be sent.

Police later used tear gas to disperse the rioters and detained about 100 suspects, he said.

Upon learning of the incident, a large contingent of police, including senior officers, rushed to the spot to control the situation.

Local residents near the labor colony in the area claim that migrant workers suddenly took to the streets and demanded that they be allowed to return to their homes after the lockdown.

Migrant workers from different states have been asking local authorities for several days to repatriate them as soon as possible, Joint Commissioner of Police Amit Vishwakarma said.

“About 400 to 500 migrant workers live in the labor colony and work on a nearby construction site. They have been demanding his return for a long time. At the same time, when some of them gathered on the street on Monday, the local police told them to go back and be patient.

“We told them that the administration is also working to resolve this issue,” he said. However, he suddenly became angry and started throwing stones. It exploded suddenly; it was not directed by the police.

About 100 suspects were detained after the incident, he said.
