A IRS officer demands for 1 crore RS dowry & hits is wife in private parts, and throws her out of the house.
The wife of a senior Indian Revenue Service officer has filed a police complaint against him accusing him of harassment and assault as her family did not fulfill his dowry demands. The complaint Prerna (34) (name changed), a native of Bihar, works as a manager at a nationalized bank and resides at a posh society in Ahmedabad’s Shilaj neighborhood.
In her complaint with Ahmedabad Mahila rural police, she claimed that her matrimonial family had been demanding Rs 1 crore, an Innova car, and jewelry as dowry. She met her husband Rahul (named changed) at a meeting which was arranged by their family members. The couple tied the knot in May 2013. Prerna alleged that just before the wedding, Rahul’s family raised their demands. However, her parents refused to give them anything as it is crime.
According to a report by Ahmedabad Mirror, her in-laws had been harassing her after the marriage. They would say “the price of an IRS groom in the market was Rs 1 crore” and would often call her a beggar’s daughter. They also threatened her by saying that they would send her back to the house of her parents. Amid the alleged ongoing harassment, Prerna gave birth to a baby boy. He is five years old now.
Harassment turns into physical violence
In 2015, Rahul got posting in Ahmedabad. Prerna claimed that her husband and in-laws continued harassing her and in 2016, they threw her out of the house. She then approached the police but the matter was settled. Later, the couple moved a petition for divorce but later withdrew it. This year the harassment turned into physical violence. Prerna was allegedly thrashed by Rahul in April. She claimed that he even hit her in her private parts and asked her to fulfill his family’s demands. Subsequently, Prerna approached the police. An offense has been registered under the Dowry Prohibition Act.
